Organisation

This organisation is founded in 2009 in Amsterdam. They have an office in this city but also in the city that never sleeps: New York. Approximately 70 people are currently working for the company but they are scaling up on a large scale.

They core business is music video’s, they have millions of users per month globally. In the next 6 months this will increase to 5/10 million. A lot is going to happen! The users are really diverse, from young people using Apple TV, to grown-ups using Ziggo.

The data they generate is user-data, which is used for management reports, checking out the user experience, A/B testing etc. The Data Science team is building recommender systems and personalisation. All the data is stored in the Cloud (Google Cloud Platform).

The Data team consists of six peope at the moment, working as Data Scientists, Data Engineer and Data Analytics. The current Data Engineer will be leaving, therefore they are looking to find someone to replace. And also this company is growing in the next monts, so they opened up to positions!

Specifically the Data team will be existing of two to three Data Engineers.

Role

As Senior Data Engineer you will be the lead, therefore you will be coaching and mentoring the Medior Data Engineer. There is a chance that this team will grow in the future! You will be working closely together, but also with other technical teams.

You will take end-to-end ownership for the data quality and pipelines. You will develop and maintain the scalable data systems. Next to that you will be working with real time data projects with third parties and work on data migration projects. Therefore it is important that you are not ‘afraid’ to speak up and are proactive.

They are offering:

• Salary indication is between  €65.000 – €80.000 per year based on 40 hours for a Senior, this is including holiday allowance;
• Salary indication is between €50.000 – €65.000 per year based on 40 hours for a Medior, this is including holiday allowance;
• 12 months-contract, indefinite afterwards;
• Working 40, 36 or 32 hours per week;

They are looking for:

• A few years of relevant work experience (no specific number);
• Experience with data modelling, building ETL pipelines, working with big datasets;
• Programming experience in Python is a must;
• Programming experience in Scala is a plus;
• Experience with Kafka is a must;
• Experience with Spark and Cassandra is a plus;
• Experience with working in the Cloud;
• For the Senior role: experience with mentoring, supervising a small team;
• Understanding Machine Learning concepts;
• Excellent communication skills in English;
• A pro-active colleague who likes to share his/her ideas
